In the first quilt, I gave up and used the ones my dad Photoshopped for me, but I was NOT happy with the way they turned out. My main annoyances with them was that I positioned them in such a way that they made me twitchy and the fabric was so stiff.
I'm back to applique using the method I've seen recently in magazines--fuse the fusible on the wrong side of the fabric, print the pattern to cut out directly onto the non-shiny side of freezer paper, lightly iron the freezer paper onto the right- side of the fabric, and then cut out. I'm using a drawing of the New Moon Parrot Tulip this time. I am also borrowing another technique for the tulips that I saw on another quilt. The main part of the tulip and any outside pieces will be of double-layered fabric fused together so that both sides are the right-side of the fabric. The tulips will only be tacked down near the top and may be a couple other inside places so they pop out from the background fabric. I hope it works!

I made a model tonight to test things out. I'm not happy with the shading that I did on the tulip with the Shiva Paintstick. I'm either going to try paint next or colored pencil (I think I have to use some type of prepatory medium on the fabric and may be a sealant. I need to get my books out.)
I did manage to get my setting triangles back on. I allowed for 1/2" to be trimmed off the block all the way around to account for any drawing up of the fabric with the applique.
This time around I will frame the block with movie pics printed on fabric framed by a pieced film frame.
